New Member (Series 2 van)

Post by OHP 900 »

Hi, I've recently joined the message board in hope of getting some questions I have answered. I currently own OHP 900, a 1953 empire green series 2 van. It still has many of it's original parts (including the engine and gearbox). It will require a complete restoration that I hope to start in a few months time. If anyone knows anything about the history of this van (I think it was rallied in the 1990's) then it would be great to hear from you.

It would be really good to get it back to how it left the factory, that means no mirrors or indicators and cross-ply tyres for me!!!!

Ill upload a picture soon.

Thanks, the workshop will be complete around the April mark, so the major work will start soon after I'll try and post the restoration photos in the special restoration section of the message board so people can see them in chronological order. Your 4 door series 2 restoration is a fantastic read as your get to see the car's renovation progress as your read through all the pages.

John Cooke MM restos had it for a few years and they restored it to what you see today.......'Continental Cafe' as an owner seems to ring a bell

Cab number is only 10 away from the oldest surviving GPO van.

Before BMC separated GPO & Civvies cab numbering series.

Little known fact no.65348
Further investigations uncovered it was an inside job!!

Thanks for the fantastic news POMMReg, its great to see replies from other enthusiasts.

Nice picture Russ, it was a fantastic event (great to see other LCVs from different countries too.) We did have to fettle the van when we got it as it was only running on three cylinders,
the radiator was completely clogged, as was the block which was solid! We also spent a couple of hours getting rid of the Morris Minor Centre stuff on the side, it was really bugging me. Myself and my father spent another day replacing suspension bushes, wheel cylinders, master cylinder and brake shoes. And one further day changing all vital fluids, getting lights and locks working so that the van would be ready to be driven up to Gaydon. Feel free to browse through some more photos below.[frame]Image[/frame]

Very nice looking van which I recall seeing at the LCV bash last year. Would love a Series 2 LCV to compliment my 1098 pickup and van.
