Cliveden House
I must say the magazine during these very uncertain times is
a great read – thank you to
all concerned. This is the first time I have ever sent anything into the club and I have been
a member I think for 24 years? The MOT to Belgium (the last one to go ahead) was our first and it was such great fun.
While away in Belgium last year we attended an art class with Eric, who travelled
to the Arctic prior to the Belgium trip and reported on his adventures in the magazine. He was very gifted in his teaching and my husband cannot draw! Yet we produced the following two drawings you might like for the magazine. We were away in another world and so enjoyed the experience.
More recently, we had a family wedding and our Minor convertible – Tilly – was the wedding car. The event took place at Cliveden House, a National Trust property near us. We thought all Minor owners would love the shot showing Tilly parked outside in between two other cars! They just happen to be a Porsche and a Ferrari...

Round the Clock
I have never submitted anything before as a possible contribution but thought it was a bit overdue, so here’s my best effort for Viewpoint, along with photo. Having just got my new MoT this month, it dawned on us that on passing the 98k miles mark this MoT would mean that, in the coming year, it will clock up the big 100k, and all the zeros will be showing up again for first time since brand new.
This got me thinking as to how many miles I could expect to get out of my well looked after original A Series engine, that has never needed any major work, or rebuilding. We’ve had VPE 949G called Snowberry – after the colour match – for 32 years. The mileage back then was 35k, only one previous owner. I had electronic ignition fitted, along with unleaded valve seats many years ago, and it still pulls very well up the hills. So, a question to the membership, what’s the most anyone has ever got from an original A Series engine, or even a rebuilt one?

Never Say Die
Reading July’s edition of Minor Matters,
a member Mr Jeremy Mitchell sent a sad letter telling us that he has to give up his membership because he has parted from his 1953 Moggy. Never say die, I have
been a member since 2007 and owned Lily my 1962 Moggy until 2019. I had to sell her because I couldn’t get the underneath welding jobs done here in Ireland as there seems no one interested in restoration, that I could find. So I had to sell her dead cheap after 12 years to someone who turned out to be a welder, what bad luck!
I decided to keep my membership and glad I did because I have just bought a copy of Lily, same Smoke Grey, four-door but eight years younger at 1970 and with an MoT, which gives me another chance of another 12 years with this one, so
Mr. Mitchell, give it another chance, you will be glad.

Chiddingstone
Thank you for another very I saw with interest the photo of Chiddingstone village that I know quite well. Members can reassured that there is indeed no ‘yellow paint’ in the village as it is owned by the National Trust. Members can step back
in time of they go there as parking is just like in the photo, a very good tea room is available and the castle is there to visit etc. Martin Bament (67287)
