Nuffield Place
I thought members may appreciate an update on the situation at Nuffield Place following closure for the pandemic
The good news is that the property
is open again every day except Monday and Tuesday, from 10am to last visit at 3pm, and designated as one of 50 or
so smaller NT properties. Unlike many larger properties pre-booking for visits are required. Currently up to 84 visitors are permitted per day but hopefully that will increase as Covid recedes. The idea is to give visitors a more personal tour in a Covid safe small group.
The shop remains open but the cafe is now closed. My personal recommendation for local refreshment is a visit to Greys
NT Cowshed cafe or the Field Kitchen,
in the old school in Nettlebed, two miles away. The volunteer gardeners have been working extremely hard to bring the garden back from its lockdown neglect
and the results are
impressive. Researching
and later restoring the
original water features
in the lawn area is a
new project that has
just commenced. Lady
Nuffield’s Wolseley 8
is behaving confirmed
by a recent, short road
trip. There are new
information boards in
the garage but current
financial restrictions
may hold back any
further improvements, but here’s hoping for lighting and a bench at some stage. Large car club and similar events will no longer be part of the property remit but individuals are welcome to display their old car at the front of the house, just contact the NP office beforehand to confirm.
