Cumbria Branch run
AREA 1
Northern England
Cumbria Jon Trevorrow
After 18 months of restrictions, Saturday
June 19 was a red letter day for the Cumbria Branch. Annabelle and Pete organised a Moggy Run starting from the Rheged Centre near Penrith. In lovely weather, the Moggies headed for Ullswater, then Pooley Bridge where the cars became the subject of a number of photographs taken by admiring onlookers. The cars then wound down through the East Cumbria lanes to Shap before turning back north to finish at Lowther Castle.
On the run Raymond’s car suffered a glitch, ‘it just stopped!’ With the car pushed to a place of safety, the glitch was quickly diagnosed as
a faulty coil. What followed next was like a Formula One pit stop. Most of us carry enough spares to run a motorist’s shop, and Jim Love was first back with a snazzy Lucas sports coil. Strapped in place and reconnected, the team was quickly on the move again to finish the run. In late July Bob and Sally kindly organised a lovely BBQ at their home near Dalton-in- Furness. It was wonderful to be able to meet up again with fellow branch members.

At last, cautiously, the Branch is resuming activities and we are meeting each other again. Our popular, monthly mechanics’ days have restarted with work being done on cars being brought out from a long period of inactivity, as well as the cups of tea, pie eating and chat!
The highlight was our branch rally at beautiful Leighton Hall in Cumbria on July 4. What a sight it was to see 15 Minors driving in convoy along the M6 before descending into the grounds of the Hall with the mountains in

be there, despite

our numbers. Steve Rose parked the cars in the shape of a figure 40 in front of the Hall to mark our 40th anniversary this year and everyone had a great day out despite the odd downpour.
Next up was our ‘bring your car night’ and supper back at our meeting place in Leyland
before a bumper attendance and club stand at the Royal Lancashire Show in August.
Our delayed celebration dinner to mark our anniversary is eagerly anticipated. It has been a long haul for us all but gradually we are returning to normal.
