We were excited to be included in the Coventry and Warwickshire branch rally held at the British Motor Museum, Gaydon, in total Avon branch had eight cars attend, it was a brilliant day and we all thoroughly enjoyed ourselves.
The branch ‘out-n-about’ took us to The George Inn at Bathampton. We were pleased
to catch up with members who live locally, and see new faces tempted by a Morris Minor meet on their doorstep. We also welcomed the West Wilts branch. It was a great turn out of members and their cars, bringing smiles and interest to the patrons of the George Inn. We are planning new events, one being a breakfast club to be held on a Sunday morning, ideally once a month. Members recently enjoyed a mighty breakfast at The Pavilion St Briavels. We are looking forward to the branch rally on Sunday September 19
at the East Somerset railway and a Halloween drive out with Sunday roast on October 31. Branch Contact: Nik Gardner

At last things are getting a bit more back to normal, we can have monthly meetings - luckily our club meeting is in a large room
and we have a large garden if the weather is fine. We are having our AGM in August and the 40th anniversary meeting in September. We are also celebrating our privilege of having Geoff Hoskins on our committee for over 30 years, until he recently passed away. We are all saddened by his loss, he was the sort of person everyone was more than happy to be friends with. He was our committee’s rally organiser and also organised our annual summer picnic so we had a memorial picnic on August 1. He made sure we all knew of forthcoming rallies and reminded us of ones that had taken place, in his article in our monthly newsletter. He was also on the original HOP committee and was very good at finding new venues and creating club drive routes that were a feature of the HOP rally. He was a committee member we could always rely on.

Our first club organised event of the year saw us meet up for breakfast at the SEB club where we hold our monthly meetings (1st Wednesday of the month). Members then enjoyed a leisurely road run through the New Forest to Breamore House for our summer picnic. We were kindly given special access to the courtyard main house entrance area for the photo, with thanks to Phil Crouter, Museum Curator, for gaining permission from the Hulse family. Some members may remember visiting Breamore
for the 2005 National Rally. Our regular club nights have started again; upcoming evenings include the annual gardening competition and an antiques roadshow.

On May 31 we held a car run as a tribute
to Mal Adams, our treasurer and founder
who lost his battle with cancer at the end of February this year. Mal and I had planned
a route for a run back in September of last
year when he was not at all well. We covered the route one more time on this particular Wednesday before the run the following Sunday, just to be clear with our directions. We were surprised to find toilets at the planned comfort stops closed due to the Covid-19 crisis. That very evening, the Prime Minister and our First Minister locked down the entire country due to the worsening Covid-19 situation so the run was cancelled.
Mal passed away at the end of February, and as he was the founder of our club, we decided to dedicate the cancelled run to him. The only difference was that the starting point being at the village church car park where our club was started by Mal. The run was scheduled for the early May bank holiday but, due to predicted very nasty weather forecast for that day, I
once again cancelled the run, fortunately, as it turned out because the weather on the day was appalling. We replanned the run for the late May bank holiday Monday.
We had a great turn out on the day with Mal’s son and grandson bringing along one
of Mal’s cars and a framed photograph of Mal with the Morris Minor van he had restored. The run went very well, eventually stopping in Newquay, West Wales, only to find the town and car park extremely busy and full up. We did not loop around the town as planned due to the crowding, so we just had a comfort break. On to Aberaeron, having been informed that the town was extremely busy with little chance of parking up especially as a group.
We parked up in the Council Office car park that was virtually empty due to it being a bank holiday. It was a very pleasant stop with the sea of Cardigan Bay as a backdrop.
