Re: 1966 morris minor 1000 Oil Filter

You need a Heritage Certificate from the British Motor Industry Heritage Trust at Gaydon. It will list the original colour, date built, date shipped, to which dealer, and a host of other details. You can also look behind the glove box liners and other trim as those areas may reveal the original body...

1966 morris minor 1000 Oil Filter

If the car is standard, then rear axle use SAE90 Hypoid / EP90 oil. Approx 1.5 pints; but fill until it comes out of the filler hole. Engine oil filter - is it the original unit with a metal bowl and separate element, or has it been converted to a spin on one? If not sure, then post a photo of right...

Re: Can anybody help to find my first love

Contact the Club's office in Derby. If the current owner is a member of the club then the office will be able to pass your details to the owner. If you do meet up, then it would make a good article for the Club's magazine "Minor Matters".

Cannot post, blocked or blacklisted by IP

Have you had this problem? If yes, but currently OK, then can you please send me a PM to confirm which ISP or network you were using plus the IP address reported when blocked. If currently having the problem, then try sending me a PM as above and see if that works. If that still does not work, then ...

Re: Lockheed Brake M/C

socket should be OK as the cap is not tightened excessively. The only thing to watch is that the alloy is quite soft and a socket grips on the corners or points, whereas a box spanner grips the flats. However, seated plus a bit should be fine and much better than a bodge with an open ended spanner o...

Re: Lockheed Brake M/C

And the chewed up state of the nuts arises from not using the correct box spanner :-? New items have perfectly formed hexagons with flat sides. The filler cap will still work with a deformed "nut", but I would be more concerned about the inner workings of the cylinder.

Most of the parts suppliers who advertise in Minor Matters should be able to help. For example: https://www.morrisminorspares.com/ and search "Traveller handle"

Re: Door alignment

One of the more frustrating experiences in assembling a Minor. You may have already found that there is adjustment on both top and bottom hinges and for each hinge, on both the A-post and the door. Add to that the use of shims under each hinge "leg" - good quality laser cut shims of varyin...

Re: Rear axle repair

Not identical, but should fit - the main difference in the casing is the oil filler plug. The diff ratio will be different, but you can swap the diff.

Whereabouts are you? The axles are not easy to ship!

Do you need a complete axle or just the casing?

Re: Wipers

The OP stated "I have fitted a new wiper motor wheelboxes and wire.". If it really is a new motor then it shouldn't be full of hardened grease. It sounds like a major refurbishment of the system, which means disassembly and reassembly of all components, so there is a risk of damage to the ...

Re: Brakes

Was the braking system in good order before fitting the servo? You are correct that the servo should simply reduce the effort needed to press the pedal, it should not make the brakes grab. The state of the drums, shoes and cylinders can all affect the feel of the brakes. It might be that the servo h...

Re: Purolator - how tight?

By "collar", do you mean around the bolt at the bottom or round the top lip of the cannister? The sealing ring on the underside of the head usually stays in place if pushed firmly into the groove in the head - a blunt rod helps; but a couple of dabs of grease can help hold the seal in plac...

Re: Brakes

The clue is that when you brake, you lock the wheels; but when your good lady brakes, she uses less pressure on the pedal and relies on the servo assistance. It is possible to lock the wheels on a minor without a servo if the road surface is suitable and you press hard enough on the pedal. As above,...

Re: Clutch advice

Clutches can fail in different ways, but if I'm reading correctly, you're getting lots of clutch slip, so the engine is revving but the car is not moving in proportion, if at all? Does this apply equally in all gears? If you look under the car, is the propshaft turning and does it increase in speed ...

The pipes used at the end of production were all plastic, no wire. Try https://www.hellermanntyton.co.uk/competences/corrugated-tubing. Scroll down until you find the light weight thin wall tubing. No promises, but it might just do the job for you. Also the hoses for a Mini may fit: https://www.mini...
