Screen Fitting
Hi
Could anyone tell me what the process is for fitting the chrome strip when fitting my front windscreen. Should it be fitted before the screen or will it go in after? Also is there a favoured type of "string" used. I have used a thin washing line in the past, nice and strong but has cut the rubber.
Also what about lubricant? Is there anything that is particulaly good and non-damaging to the rubber.(I think I know the answer to this and its from Boots the chemist isn't it!)
any help gratefully apreciated
thanks
Rupert

Presuming you mean for a Minor 1000, not series 2 or series MM....
1098 Minor 1000: The plastic bead / chrome strip pushes in after fitting - you can get a tool to help.
948 Minor 100: apparently the stainless trim goes in the rubber before you fit to tha car .
Washing up liquid is often recommended to aid assembly.

screen
I watched the professional fit the front screen to my '57 car
and he did indeed have to fit the stainless trim to the rubber
before fitting the whole assembly to the car. He didn't need
my help but I think you will appreciate an extra pair of hands.
Regarding the string tearing the rubber, the angle at which you
pull the string away is critical i.e. the nearer to ninety degrees
from the window opening you pull the more likely you are to
tear the rubber( difficult to explain)

Hi Rupert!
Autoglass came and did mine yesterday (it took him the best part of 3 hours so you should be dead proud!)
The problem with mine stemmed from the chrome strip not wanting to sit right (He put it in before fitting it)
As to sealing - he used a standard polymer-in-a-applicator-gun black goo.
And put it along the bottom and sides but not on the top...

In my experience - blue tack is a wonderful thing -and it has lasted keeping the chrome surround in for over four years.rupert wrote:My darling wife helped me get the sceen in tonight and it worked first time thanks! (going to have to buy her a pint now!)
The only problem is that the metal trim strip has popped out of the seal a bit - any ideas on how to get it back in?
thanks again for all the help
Rupert
