well i think its fantastic I almost did something similar to a pickup, was going to use a GM V8 diesel and a range rover chassis, but liked driving the range rover to much, then sold it and got a Mustang instead even more fun.
As this is a thread for our own moggies, heres my van again
And although he now isnt mine anymore, I built him and proud of the car so heres my old traveller

The pulling power of a Turbo Diesel! The voices may not be real, but they have good ideas.

Here is my converted convertible, pretty standard (GRP wings, boot, bumper valence. Marina 1275, uprated shocks, marina front discs. Homemade towbar and BMW interior). Its used for my daily commute Gosport to Southampton. The engine bay needs a tidy (on the to do list) and she needs a new ragtop (on the wish list). Present project is making a hard top for her - hope to complete over Christmas .[frame][/frame][frame][/frame][frame][/frame]

so you're converting your converted convertible?cmea wrote:Present project is making a hard top for her
sound like a usefull thing if you can keep it solid enough. can imagine a severed roof to be quite flimsy.
guessing you will have to unbolt the hood assembley to clip on your hard top?

The severed roof should be pretty stiff because of it's shape, certainly much stiffer than a flat sheet of steel.

Yes the "severed" roof is quite stiff . What I didnt realise until after I had started was that the rear side windows are a different shape on the saloon compared to the convertible . I intend to make my soft top detachable around the rear frame with "popers" or "DZUS" style fasteners so that all I need to do is undo the two bolts on the convertible frame and remove the frame complete with ragtop for the winter . Not entirely sure how I will attach the front yet. I am thinking along the lines of drilling two locating holes for the two "spikes" on the windscreen top and using internal catches by the door pillars. however shaping the rear section for the windows has delayed me somewhat and sizing up resulted in scratching the rear . The rear of the roof also needs extending to cover the wood rail - it seemed like such a simple idea when I first started it
