Hi everyone,
I'm in the process of fitting a spin-on oil filter conversion. All looks straight forward enough - except for removing the stud nuts (I think that's what they're referred to as) that hold the original oil filter housing to the engine block. They're got to come out because they're too long for the new version - two shorter ones are supplied with the kit.
The stud nuts are threaded in the usual direction at both ends, and smooth in between. I'm sure I'm just missing something but... how on earth are you supposed to remove them from the engine block?

Put two nuts on one stud and tighten them together, you should then be able to remove the stud with a spanner on the locked up nuts

If you are not going to re-use the studs, you can also use mole grips to remove them. There are also stud removers that grip the stud; but the two buts locked together is tried and trusted.

Update - conversion kit now fitted, looking forward to speedier oil changes ahead!
The conversion was really easy, even for a relative newcomer to classic cars like me. I did have the radiator and front panel off the car at the time, for an unrelated job, which made it a bit less fiddly - especially the tedious task of removing the remains of the ancient original gasket from the engine block - but I don't think it would have been much more difficult had they been left in.

Did you have any trouble with the oil feed pipe? Did you use thread sealing compound or anything?

Re. sealing compound - didn't occur to me to use this to be honest. What's the right kind of compound to use?

Sealing compound ???? What for ??? BMC didn't need it - why would we now?
