Traveller Window Channel- Which type?
Hi,
I'm in the process of fitting new window channels on my traveller. I've read posts from several people saying that they've just used the standard black channel all round so that's what I decided to do. It now turns out that ESM only supply enough for top and sides, requiring the stainless steel channel for the bottom. I just spoke to ESM who told me that there was no way you could use the black channel on the bottom and that it would just disintegrate. Is this true? I'd really rather not take it all apart again, it's taken me long enough to get it in!
Thanks,
James

Re: Traveller Window Channel- Which type?
Iv used all black on mine to keep the costs down. ESM dont recommend this. I just measured how much channel i needed and ordered it. Think it was from a company called woolies. I ordered my gutter from them aswell. Il look for the paperwork. If youve already got the esm kit you can just order more channeling. Might be worth seeing if you can get some locally.

Looks like I ordered 10 meters. Which was enough. It was £3.33 a metre.
Hope this helps.
Cheers Steve

Thanks Steve. I ordered some more of the plain window runner from ESM and it's all fitted now.

I did away with it all and fitted one piece windows.

Re: Traveller Window Channel- Which type?
In hot weather like we have currently, being able to open the rear windows makes the Traveller MUCH more pleasant to drive though
When I have replaced the runners I have simply used the same runners as originally - the lower outer channel having a stainless bead.
There seemed to be plenty of suppliers of this as it used in other cars too.

Good move with the one piece window. You wont get any water coming in now. Iv kept mine standard as iv got 2 sets of glass.

The one-piece window looks smart, is certainly more secure, and easy to clean. How does it look from the outside? I need the opening windows to keep the dogs cool.

Re: Traveller Window Channel- Which type?
The reason I did this (with proper glass from Pilkington's) was to stop the wood from rotting. Swelling wood made the sliding windows hard to move. I have had the car since 1979 and replaced the wood twice. The glass is sealed all the way around and dose not leak and the wood has stayed rot free. From memory I think the two windows cost me about £80 ten years ago. I made a cardboard template and they cut the toughened glass, smoothed the edge and even etched a kite mark in the corner.

That does look good. I feared that it might look a bit like a hearse but it is not long enough for that. Just elegantly simple. Good thinking.
