I've run into some trouble with the cylinder head on my series 2. I can get hold of a 948 head but will a 948 head fit the 803 block?

Happy to be corrected, but I say 'yes'.....I think the 948 and 803 heads are pretty much the same.

The 803cc and 948cc cylinder heads are of the same specification.
They can have casting numbers - 2A628, 2A629 or 12A1456.
All the heads have a combustion chamber of 24.5cc.

I'm assuming that the valve hasn't been shutting right and has burned the valve seat.

Valve looked OK just the head unfortunately.

New head fitted and all. Compression test shows only 5 psi difference so looking good. The replacement head has new valve guides so was able to use the later spring type valve stem oil seals. Thanks for the info guys.
