Fuel Pump - Which one?

My fuel pump as packed in and needs new points.
To be honest, I don't use the car much and it drives me mad when it doesn't start when I do use it. Therefore I was thinking of buying an electric kit for them. Are they any good or do they break down with heat from the exhaust?

How do you know it needs new points? They can and are meant to be cleaned up when they become pitted, and new points are easy and cheap to fit.

The repro fuel pumps are not much good by all accounts.

Electronic pumps don't have a good reputation. Just clean/fit new points to the one you have. Or buy a new 'points' pump and then overhaul the one you have at leisure. But you won't need it because a points pump should be good for 40+ years......

I fitted new points about 4 years ago, and the small wires inside have corroded and snapped off.

I tried to unscrew the points and the centre shaft broke off at the end. So I need a new pump or shaft.

I also found that my pump needed a little tap to get it working if I didn't use it for a few weeks. So something isn't right.

it needed a tap because of the water and impurities in some (most) petrols forming rust or a seal in the pump,just like central heating pumps when first used after the scorching hot summers we have the tap clears the seal but doesn't move the residue,so prone to clogging again

So a rebuild would solve that.

Can you buy the centre shaft for a pump from somewhere?
