Hi Chaps,
How difficult is it to convert a 948 or 1098 gearbox to fit into a Series II car? Is it something which can be done by a home mechanic with a reasonable set of spanners?
Also, would a 948 or 1098 gearbox with the standard remote fit in a Series II without modifying the floor pan?
Regards
John

There was a longish thread on this just a few days ago - search! And yes - if you change from pudding stirrer to remote lever, the floor needs to be modified.

Re: 803cc Gearbox
But there is a way to 'mate' the 803 and 948 gearboxes to have a 948 gearbox without cutting up the floor. There must be a thread on here that says how. Mine was done that way but a friend of a friend did it for me so I can't advise further.

Yes - that's covered many times too - it is just a case of swapping the end covers of each gearbox. Straight swop - nothing difficult with a 948 box - slightly more complex with a 1098 box.
