What type of fluid / oil is used in the front shocker arms ?

SAE20 oil originally. But SAE30 is a good improvement.

Don't just top up - flush through several times.

The front and rear dampers work much better with SAE 40 oil - that's NOT 10W40. Plenty on ebay if you can't find it locally.
As above -fill and drain a couple of times with bouncing of course. Rears are best taken off the car and done on the bench, but fronts are easily done on the car. Don't lose any of the little springs/washers that come out on the valve spindle - put a tray under when you remove the valve to drain them...

Here's how it goes back together if you are unsure. Compressed air can also help to drain them.

Take your time. It's easy but I found it a very slow process that took a few days to get the oil to come out clear.
