Smiths ammeter
I have a 0 to 30 smiths ammeter which I would like to fit, but I am told they 0 to 30 was fitted to a dynamo system, not a a car fitted with an alternator - so if I fit this am I liable to do damage to the meter?

Re: Smiths ammeter
There is a possibility of over reading with a 30 - 30 ammeter when used with an alternator which may kick out more than 30 amps. If you know that your alternator is less than 30 amps you will be OK, otherwise use a 60 - 60 ammeter or a voltmeter

I believe you meant to say 'that your alternator is less than 30 amps' output.

I'm sure I answered this already - but it seems to have disappeared... Basically - as long as it is a 30 - 0 -30 ammeter it will be fine. It may go full scale for a few seconds on starting up - but no harm will result. beware the cables must go in the main feed wire (Brown) to the car wiring from the solenoid, and so they are unfused and must be very carefully insulated especially where they pass through the bulkhead.
