Re: What goes here??
What year is the car? It looks like a 948cc dash and someone has cut a hole for an aftermarket gauge of some sort. Is there a glovebox liner behiind the lid? If no, then it was probably removed to make room for a instrument.

Sorry my bad.. 55 series 2 convertible, there is a box behind although its out at present while i fettle the wipers
Re: What goes here??
No problem, just wondering if the passenger side glove box matches? From Paul Skilleter's book we get:
Series II 1952: 1956: According to Ray Newell's Morris Minor The Complete Storey, glovebox lids were not intrudced until the Minor 1000 in 1956, so I suspect that your lid may have been added to support whatever went in the hole. A caveat: there is no definitive answer to what happened in the factory 60 years ago. What's written in the records does not always reflect practice, plus owners have always adapted cars.

Re: What goes here??
Ok thanks, i was just wondering if there was any sort of standard thing that would fit in the odd shaped hole. No worries ill have a think and see if i can get something to fit or just blank it off
Cheers

Re: What goes here??
As mentioned above, your car would not originally have been fitted with a glovebox lid at all. The reason for the piece of cardboard to wedge it shut is probably that whoever fitted the lid didn't think to fit the catch from the same donor car. The type you have was fitted to the first Minor 1000 models and the hole must have been cut for some accessory. No idea what though! Easiest thing would be to either remove the lid to regain the original appearance or to obtain a replacement from a Minor 1000.

Thanks for the info. I stuck the cardboard in there as i have all the innards out currently to work on the wiper motor. I’ll try both looks i think and see what looks best

Looks like a very precise hole. If it was hand cut for an instrument, it was carefully done.
Nothing unusual about your car? Military, police or anything like that?

I think there was a Smiths electric clock of that size and shape which is one possibility.
