Re: choke handle came off in my hand!
Only if they've been bent! There should be a nipple with a screw clamp to hold the cable.

Re: choke handle came off in my hand!
The new cable comes as a complete assembly. You will need to remove the glove box in order to gain access to the securing nut behind the dashboard. Undo the nut, remove old cable. Push new cable through hole in dashboard, feed spring washer and nut over cable end, then thread cable through hole in b...

Just search this forum for terms like "valvemaster" or "catalyst". For starters, try this topic:

Sorry, didn't realise that it was just one spring hanger, thought that it was both. Therefore revise prices down quite a bit.

Re: Problems found today suspension
Definitely not safe to take on the road like that. The rear spring hangers are in danger of shearing away. Your cheapest option for repair is to find somewhere that you can work on the car - a driveway will do. You can then do the labour for stripping the springs and putting them back later, whilst ...

And another vote for silicone. Two travellers use it, the saloon has conventional fluid. All get similar use, but the saloon suffers more seized cylinders than the travellers. More importantly, it doesn't ruin the paintwork if you spill any!

Apologies for wandering off topic, and also to female readers, but the old adage is that statistics are like a bikini - what they reveal is interesting, but what they cover up is more so.

Re: Kelvar coolant hoses
Regretfully the supply of kevlar hoses leaves a LOT to be desired. The older hoses lasted 10+ years without problems, the new ones are, in my experience, pretty useless. I've invested in a set of silicone hoses and will report back on how well they last after a couple of years.

Re: Heater - 1968, 1098cc Morris
Katie, if I understand correctly, you have the ignition on, then operate the switch for the heater, and the fan does not run. As Marky and Chickenjohn say, this is electrical. The feed wire should be green (which is used for LOTS of wires) or green and yellow. You could have (a) a faulty switch, (b)...

Re: Morris minors are tops in survey
Or other makes are declining faster We would need to see the actual numbers before we could draw the conclusion, and even then, would have to allow for varying numbers of responses - one can prove anything with statistics.

Re: Heater - 1968, 1098cc Morris
Basic controls! At the front of the heater (that is the bit nearest the back of the car :o ) is a lever that moves up and down. It controls a flap that directs air. Down is off. Middle = screen (demist), up = cabin. Whatever you do with it, some air will leak out. Below the flap is a switch. It turn...

Re: Marina Disc Brake Conversion
The remote fluid reservoir is essential as the calliper draw more fluid than the wheel cylinders. There is enough in the normal master cylinder, but you would need to check it and top up on a very frequent basis.

Re: Boiling like a kettle.
Is performance OK? Any strange odours? Binding brakes could cause overheating, but unlikely to be as severe as you describe. Do you have access to a cooling system tester or block testing fluid - this changes colour if combustion gases are present in the cooling system. By "checking the coolant...

Re: Track rod lock nut
Wire brush threads and nuts. Soak in Plus Gas for a day. Then soak in Plus Gas for a day. Select a perfectly fitting spanner. Apply good heat to the nut. Fit spanner, take up the slack, and hit with a big hammer - make sure that you are hitting CLOCKWISE as you want the nut to move on further, away ...
Re: tyres
For a standard Minor, I'd go 145 x 14 every time. Lose the remoulds, even though they won't affect the steering if they.re on the rear.

Re: Confused - Petrol??!
The only stupid question is the one that you don't ask. If you need to know something then ask away, that's how we all learn. Practical Classics magazine ran some tests and proved valve seat regression. The Federation of British Historic Vehicle Clubs has a list of approved (and tested) additives. M...

Re: steering column noise
If it is really from the column, then it's likely that the cover over the indicator switch is catching on the steering wheel, which is not running completely true - could be a worn felt bush. Try oiling the felt (just drip oil down the central column) and also adjusting the switch cover by slackenin...
