Got a 1098 thats smoking. Done a compression test today, this was the result....
1 2 3 4
Dry 170 160 160 160
Wet 180 180 180 180
Are new rings the answer? Oil pressure is good
Cheers Tim

suggest head overhaul
Re: New rings?
Compressions look very very good! Why are you worried about it ? I don't see anything wrong with these results - no need for any work from these readings. I suggest you clear the breathers - and make sure one of them is connected to the carb intake to ensure a vacuum on the crankcase. As a check - with engine hot and idling - take off the oil filler cap. Is there a plume of smoke/fume when you rev up ? As Steve is suggesting - it 'may ' just be badly worn valve guides and stem seals - but come back with the filler cap test result !
