you can find a set off 13 inch which has a small rollin radious so it gets better accserlation, (cnt spell that) and lower the car, 1 spline on the front and blocks on the back, will look ok then, then you can have the wheels
you want, to many people have minilights !!!

mine are 185/60 R14. makes em a little smaller (and makes the wheels look bigger coz of low section tyres) so it accelerates pretty quick. suffers on top end though.

Hey Guys,

Thought i'd carry on my post with a new question, at the moment i've put the car on hold and just trying to build up some funds. But my question is engine's and gearboxes, mainly which type's i should be looking at, i thought orginally a mini 1275cc but ive also seen MG Miget brought up once or twice and the idea of a MG B seires 1800. Any thoughts?[frame][/frame]

Mini won't work at all. MGB engine weight is only slightly less than an elephant so it throws out any chances of having a car that handles. Midget/Sprite engine will work alright if you can find one.

Well my plan is work gas suspension and uprate the handling as much as possible. I just dont know how easy a B seires would fit into the engine bay.[frame][/frame]

From what I remember, you have to mount the radiator sideways in the engine bay, parallel with the engine. Otherwise it's too long. I presume you'd have to also modify the transmission tunnel to get the gearbox and overdrive unit in. At the end of the day though, you're basically creating an MGB that looks like a Morris Minor! If you want an MGB then you can buy a GT for absurdly small sums these days.

As already said, the Mini engine won't fit. It's for a FWD car with the gearbox in the sump, not a RWD car with an end-on 'box. Midget or Marina, however, will fit.

plenty of people selling 1275 engines on here or on ebay. must be from a midget, sprite, ital or marina though.

there are a few differences in what gearbox can be used with what engine. you can make the minor box fit all of them. it'll bolt right onto a midget or sprite, but for a marina/ital you would have to change the backplate for a midget/sprite one or a modified minor one. with a back plate that will fit a minor box, you can fit a ford 5 speed conversion, which if you're going for big power, will take the power a lot better than a minor box.

if fitting the marina engine you can always use the marina box and with swapping gears you can fit the dolomite O\D unit onto the marina box

Without a workshop I would probably not wish to tackle either the marina box / or 5 speed ford job. but I got a great deal of satisfaction on the motorway flicking the switch on the gearstick and getting the Over drive kicking in.. never failed to make me smile!

without a workshop I would probably just go for a 1275 midget engine swap on to the standard moggy box, as from what i understand it is the most straight forward.

I think you will find there are a lot of versions of the A series! A lot of different block castings and a lot of different machining!

They are absolutely not all interchangeable! One thing though, the exterior block dimensions never changed much and they can all physically fit into the Minor engine bay!
