Need help with stereo wiring!!!

Post by Callum97 »

Okay, so I'm aware this may have been covered but could not find anyone with the exact same problem, so here goes...

I've just bought a stereo for my 2dr, to install, having no previous stereo fitted, and no wiring for one.
When i was paying for the stereo at the till, the bloke told me that they could not supply the wiring i needed to fit it (halfrauds).

What do i need to connect the up harness (a couple of inches from the back of the speaker)?

is there a connector available?

Cheers in advance, Callum

I think you will find that the two halves of the connector you have got with the stereo will join together and you will end up with a lot of loose wires. These should already be labelled up as to where they should be connected and a wiring diagram in the instructions - make sure you car is negative earth before you start.

The ISO system has 2 plug/sockets that plug into the back of the stereo unit:

One has the basic connections, such as permanent +ve supply, ignition +ve supply, -ve ground etc.

The second plug has all the speaker connections - 4 channels for front R & L + rear R & L.

Can you list all the cable markers and colours that you have coming out of the 2 plugs?

How many speakers are you going to fit?

Fixed or telescopic aerial?

Once we know all this, identifying how to connect it up should be possible!

Callum,

I am a bit confused as the first picture shows wires that are not included in your list. Can you take a picture of each plug, looking in from the 'wire' end please?

I am assuming that the car is already negative earth? If not it will need to be converted before making any connections to the new stereo. These are the standard wiring colours and their use:
[frame]Image[/frame]
Both the 12v +ve ignition and +ve permanently on MUST be fused before connecting to the stereo.

Does that give you the information that you need to wire it up?

Hi, yes have now noticed that I did miss 2 wires. I have now tried to draw up a reasonably simple diagram. I'll upload now.

Looks about right.
If you put the make of your radio + loom into an Ebay search it will show the right type.

Thanks, ordered myself one, and then had a chat to a family friend (a leccy) to ask him where was best locally to collect some cable, connections, and crimpers/strippers to wire up the stereo from there and tidy/reroute some other wiring - turns ouut he has a heap of his old cable, connections and tools left in his garage :D So as soon as I'm aloud my stereo (xmas pressie from the mother) it will be getting connected :) xmas money/savings will then possibly be upgrading to a sub extra as soon as I get the boot waterproof - new lid and seal needed
