Yet another dodgy ID on eBay
Seen today. V5 document and Chassis plate for 1954 saloon (engine quoted as 918cc).
The seller who may well be a club member recently bought a 1964 or newer 4-door saloon with no ID or paperwork, but was given the 1954 ID to go with it. Through Facebook he was told he'd been stitched up so he cut his losses. He's already sold the car on, with no ID or paperwork, advising it was for spares only. Now He's trying to sell the ID with the outright lie that it's from 'his 1954 car which was too far gone to repair'

It's been reported to eBay. We'll see what happens!

Re: Yet another dodgy ID on eBay
On another club forum I am a member of this issue has been a problem due to v5 documents for a particular model which has a far higher value than other models being advertised, the body shells are identical so you can see the attraction.
The response from eBay is provided the seller states it is sold as memorabilia they will take no action.

Re: Yet another dodgy ID on eBay
Memorabilia or not,it is illegal to sell a V5 OR V5C without the vehicle.

Problem is as memorabilia it’s allowed? I personally can’t see a problem as long it’s not used for illegal activity, I mean there’s lots of shells around without identity’s that need restoring, as long as it’s not for cloning a stolen car, ( problem is a lot of the time that what’s its used for ) I was shocked when I went on eBay and typed in V5 logbook, hundreds of them for sale on there.

Re: Yet another dodgy ID on eBay
I see the usual eBay scammer has had a blue fit and listed pages of dodgy listings this morning. Does anyone fall for this nonsense?

Yeah, I noticed that just now. I seems someone has gone into overdrive this morning as the same '49 Lowlight has been posted 54 times!!
……..and before anyone picks me up on it......I know Moggies were not fitted with overdrive
However, as you say, does anyone really fall for such blatant and obvious scams?

One on gumtree...dry stored 1971 van TVG-K - outwardly looking like a PO engineers van, with recent respray...but in reality..c1968 civvy...
Further investigations uncovered it was an inside job!!

Re: Yet another dodgy ID on eBay
Beats me why ebay doesn't ban their IP address or get the fraud squad involved. Reeks of organised crime.
