Re: 1968 Police Morris Minor
must be great to be getting your project moving forward, it would be good to see some progress photos, i find looking at other peoples progress photos gives me the stimulus and confidence to get on with mine .
Re: 1968 Police Morris Minor
Yes Its good to finally be getting somewhere after being ripped off last time with someone who said they could weld, they had my car for over a year and 2k and panels to fix both doors, boot and floor and only did 3/4 floor and one door and part of the boot, after taking back the car Its now with Chertsey Morris Minors who are having to undo what’s been done and start again.
Re: 1968 Police Morris Minor
Had a call from Cherstey Morris Minors today to say the welding now all done, so now need to work out which Police colour to spray It.

That is great news! You must be very pleased after such poor treatment before.

Re: 1968 Police Morris Minor
Ah, I see. I think that depended on which Police Force owned it to begin with. If you can find that out, the Force concerned might have some old records? photos even?
If you can't find out, then just do the doors for now as it'll save a few ££!
Do you still have the zip in the headlining?
As I said before, I reckon the red seats/interior is probably original to your car despite it looking a little odd. Have you tried to obtain a Heritage Certificate from Gaydon? That might give you more detail.

This article might be of interest.... No indication as to if the owner has got the right colour scheme of course.cplnobbie wrote: ↑Thu Aug 08, 2019 4:06 pmYes but I need to work out If mine was 2 white doors and half roof or just the doors.ManyMinors wrote: ↑Thu Aug 08, 2019 3:55 pm That is great news! Does this help? Ipswich 1968. Despite being a B&W picture you can make out white doors and white forward roof section.

Re: 1968 Police Morris Minor
I had the very same conversation with my Sgt this morning, I have only been in the force for 24 years but when I joined there was no internet and we had to "parade on with our accompaniments" which were basically everything we would carry with us during a tour of duty including the ever present PNB (Pocket Note Book) which was signed by our Sgt or Inspector every time they looked at it, and boy did it have to be up to date on parade.myoldjalopy wrote: ↑Fri Aug 09, 2019 9:53 am What a fantastic photograph! I'm about to undertake a similar project and have gotten to the point of stripping the interior out.
I digress, I'm glad another Morris Minor is being saved, keep us informed.

This shot was of the Stockport Police back in the late 50's, I wondered of the cars were destined for use at Ringway Airport, now Manchester International Airport.

Re: 1968 Police Morris Minor
Interesting theory, I doubt it, but anything is possible as it was a time of experimentation. The reason I doubt it is the markings are not particularly bold and nothing really shows from the side. These are more of a 'rear view mirror' marking.Murrayminor wrote: ↑Fri Aug 09, 2019 10:13 am

Even back in the 50s, airfield paint schemes would be bold to spot at a distance. For example this RAF Crew Bus is typical of what the RAF did, just paint the top of their regular blue fleet

Edited to add....
I've just found that Corgi did a special edition set featuring those cars. http://www.chezbois.com/corgi/modern_co ... _61551.htm
According to the Corgi models, they also bore a roof sign "POLICE COURTESY PATROL" the model set features the car on the far right of the photo WDB 634...

Re: 1968 Police Morris Minor
There is a specialist register for these and they may able to assist re livery. Almost every force was different and many (most) had no roof lights and very few had blue lights

Murray Minor, I was some (many) years ahead of you and in the MPS but was it not 'appointments?' rather than 'accompaniments'?

Re: 1968 Police Morris Minor
It might also be worth trawling East Sussex town's facebook photos for the period. In my meanderings round FB I have seen quite a few police Minors.
Re: 1968 Police Morris Minor
This is my ex met Panda painted Burmuda Blue and Police white which is correct. I know this as this is the actual car that I drove brand new out of Surbiton Police Station yard in April 1968. I also have the Heritage certificate giving the build date, the delivery date to the Metropolitan police what Police white was I've no idea. I think all pandas were painted Bermuda blue but different forces painted the doors and roof white.

Interesting that you have given it a red cheat stripe. I don't recall seeing that in my youth, nor on any Minor Pandas since....
is that how the Met had theirs?
