Holes in bulkhead
Can anyone tell me what these holes at the top edge of the bulkhead are for? Looks like something has been pulled out from them as they are distorted.

Re: Holes in bulkhead
I've just checked and I have bolts in those two holes, with two more in the holes above the battery.

Re: Holes in bulkhead
They are for the bifurcated copper rivets which hold, or held, the sound insulation quilt behind the dash. There are about twelve in total, from memory.
Re: Holes in bulkhead
Ah, that makes sense. Thank you both for your replies. At least I know it is not something vital.
Re: Holes in bulkhead
My Travellers have the solid bronze sound blanket fixings pt no AAA2081 fitted there - of which there are 13 fitted... these are split 4 ways not bifurcated....
The bifurcated ones with washers are fitted lower down for the parcel shelf and are part no BRP1108 I think.

Re: Holes in bulkhead
I do know they are different from the parcel shelf rivets. I must be more careful with my descriptions (quadrifurcated?) and my counting....
Re: Holes in bulkhead
I did the job today. One of the original rivets was still attached to the sound deadening material. You may be amused to learn that it is trifurcated!

When did they fit the insulation quilt from?Mark Wilson wrote: ↑Thu Aug 15, 2019 9:40 am They are for the bifurcated copper rivets which hold, or held, the sound insulation quilt behind the dash. There are about twelve in total, from memory.
Basil is a SII and has no insulation from his rebuild. I think I can just about make out where the holes mentioned in this topic were, but they're filled in with welds. Just as they had done when they missed out fitting the Throttle pedal guard, they welded in the holes!
I've got a roll of felt insulation and some vibration damping self adhesive panel to fit when I get the chance.

My ‘54 series 2 has the insulation and I believe it to be original. I’m not aware of any year that didn’t have it. It was discussed with photo in this thread. viewtopic.php?f=5&t=70255&hilit=Sound

Thanks. I remember that thread, but I thought it was only about underfloor and boot carpets.ianmack wrote: ↑Tue Aug 20, 2019 2:28 pm My ‘54 series 2 has the insulation and I believe it to be original. I shall have to see if I can get some insulation behind the dash.
There are so many little things I'm finding with Basil, I've got quite a list to keep me busy!
How many carpet fasteners are used to hold a carpet down? Again Basil doesn't have any fasteners.

Re: Holes in bulkhead
Carpet fastners? Can’t help you there I’m afraid. I’ve never had the luxury of a mog with intact original carpets

Re: Holes in bulkhead
Me neither. it was only seeing them on the photo posted by ManyMinors that I realised they existed. Then I looked at the CW site and they sell them, but don't say the quantity required.
I'll post it as a new question.
