JJL857 - 1956 Series11 Split Screen
I’m new to this forum. Would anyone have any information about my 1956 Morris Minor Series11 split screen. Any information at all about this car would be most welcome - for example Dealer who originally sold the car or previous owners. I had been told by the previous owner that the car had been owned previously by Violet Carson who played the character of Ena Sharples in Coronation Street. I would be most grateful if anyone could help - any information at all would be great. Thank you.

The registration JJL 857 would have been issued between February and June 1956 in the Holland district i.e. Spalding area of Lincolnshire. Apparently the original registration records between 1932 and 1972 still exist and are held by Lincolnshire Archives - link below:

Research suggests Violet Carson (Ena) was born in Manchester and spent her latter years living in Cleveleys near Blackpool - following her death she was cremated in Blackpool.

Have a look under the back seat - you might find one of Ena's hairnets!

Many thanks for this information. Would you know if Lincolnshire Archives would release that information.

No hair nets under the seat but a few empty bottles of milk stout in the boot!!

Well that's what all County Archive Departments are in existence for, they're a depository for historical documents, company archives, old newspapers, photographs, maps etc pertaining to each County Borough area for research by interested parties be they students, historians, researchers or the general public. Some County Archive Departments levy a fee for this information, others don't. I requested a copy of the original registration details for a 1930's vehicle from Cambridgeshire Archives a couple of years back - their fee was £20. The amount of information you get back varies from County to County - with some the records are scant and incomplete with others for example London they're non existent having been destroyed when vehicle licensing passed from County Council control to UK centralised control by the then DVLC now DVLA which started in the mid 1960's. If you live near Lincoln call in and ask, if not drop them an email.

Have spoken with Lincolnshire Archives who have advised I should make a request by email which I have done. Once again thanks for your assistance.

The original dealer information can usually be got from a Heritage certificate, its sort of like a morris minor birth certificate!! They are not cheap but are a great source of info.
