Re: LRBM & square topped wiper motor plinths
To me it is a 1955 car. The car becomes a car when it is fully assembled, up to its final assembly it is just a spares pack.
A Minor is a composite of many parts and those parts could have been made up to a couple of years earlier than the assembly of the whole.
For example engine blocks were cast and left outside to cure for 6 months or more.
The 'just in time' concept was not practiced when the Minor was in production.
As I have said above - my Minor was registered on the 1st Jan 1958, it was made and driven from the factory on trade plates just before Christmas in 1957 but is classed as a 1958 car.

The car is a 1955 edition. Until the car is fully assembled and registered it remains a pack of spares.

The car is a 1955 edition. Until it is assembled it remains a kit of parts and those parts could have been made up to 18 months previously.

Re: LRBM & square topped wiper motor plinths
Why is he upset? He knows what he has got. A vehicle built/assembled in 1955 from a kit of parts which were (naturally) made earlier.
CKD cars generally had some local content didn't they, so some of the parts (glass? interior trim?) may have been produced later in Australia anyway. It didn't become a vehicle until it was painted and assembled in 1955 surely and if it was first registered in 1955 in Australia then it is a 1955 vehicle in my book.
As an aside, does it have a UK chassis number or an Australian one?

"A" stamped into the firewall - with UK vin - therefore painted on the assembly line.
There were 3 systems used on Oz CKD S11 LCVs - alongwith separate prefixes for Sydney, Brisbane & PMC -
up until 948cc S11's, after this, 5/6/7/8/9....at this point it gets confusing!!

Further investigations uncovered it was an inside job!!
Re: LRBM & square topped wiper motor plinths
Is the A a lone stamping or is it part of sequence?

Re: LRBM & square topped wiper motor plinths
"A" ALSO used as a chassis prefix to denote Sydney assembly plant, others being;"H" = Howards, Brisbane & "P" PMC, Sydney.
Generally, a tad frustrated by the lack of info available concerning Oz CKDs, in fact, year prefixes 6/7/8/9 was regarded as fact until I figured out it was really 5/6/7/8/9, unless Ned Kelly banned 948cc Oz Minor's being built in 1957!

Re: LRBM & square topped wiper motor plinths
Well he didn’t actually ban them, there was a shortage of metal in ‘57 and what there was he commandeered to make tin helmets. I fact rumour has it that he incorporated a wrap round LBM in the design.

Maybe that’s where Phil’s LRBM went.

I took a year out, seemingly, nothing has changed!
Would of thought the LRBM & so forth may have sparked some interest, but apparently not!
