Re: Latest Convertible?
Last 5 probably hidden by the self tapper, common on LCVs 1970 onwards when body code was also stamped.
For example, the LAST 2dr doesn't have the highest recorded body number - dependent on when the vehicle was built - technically, not the last bodyshell, but was the last 2dr assembled.
I would guess this is the same for all varients, certainly the case on LCVs.

Further investigations uncovered it was an inside job!!
Re: Latest Convertible?
Well, I bought the car (must update my details with the Club) and I collect it on Monday, so I'll check it out then.
Cheers, Laurie.

Re: Latest Convertible?
Another way to judge build date is by the engine, export 10ME's were fitted from 3/69, which was the turning point from the long standing 10MA & new "plastic breather pipe" in 4/69 10V/189E.
All very boring....Zzzzzz

Re: Latest Convertible?
Thought I would update this just for completeness...
As I said, I bought the Minor, and it's a real gem. Full MOT history/certificates since the first one, and pretty well all bills and receipts. Original engine, and all the bad stuff sorted out, with bills to prove it, including a new hood.
Only done 69K genuine miles. Needs a little TLC but otherwise spot on. I'm very pleased.
1969 Minor Tourer, Trafalgar Blue with a blue/grey vinyl interior - first reg'd on 6 June 1969
Reg: AWE 484G
Chassis: MAT5D 1253120
Emgine no.: M10ME U H 11189
Body number: Z52746 172111
Thanks everyone for your help.
Cheers, Laurie.
Edit: "left the factory" changed to "first registered" as I don't yet know when it left the factory!

Re: Latest Convertible?
No! That number is wrong! I wrote (and it really looks like) Z52746. I have the original service book, and the first page is quite clear about the dates. Definitely June 1969.
Yes, I will do that, but I don't have a ramp or a tall enough garage for one and it's persisting down here in Suffolk, so it won't be today! Especially as the garage has a Frogeye and a Midget in it at the moment! Also, where will I find those numbers, please?T 72111 (T reversed punched)
Would you please msg me g/box & r/axle nos, date stamped into wiper mtr too?
Thanks
I will also grab a photo of that body number, as it's hard to read, and never having seen one before, I have have misread it, eg the reverse-punched T...
Cheers, Laurie.

Re: Latest Convertible?
Ok, a break in the rain!
Checked the numbers I can see, and the wiper motor is 16 69 which I gather is the second week of April 1969.
I've taken some pictures (attached) and have seen that the car number is actually Z32745 and T72111. Apolgies for my earlier nisreading. That 3 really looked like a 5 until I took a Macro picture and blew it up...

Re: Latest Convertible?
I've got the certficate - just arrived!svenedin wrote: ↑Fri Nov 11, 2022 7:08 am That’s brilliant info. Thank you! So the first number is a body code. Second number starting T is the car’s unique body number. According to heritage certificate mine is 72055 but on car it is 7205. In other words the heritage certificate has an extra digit.
So Brownowl, this does work. Find out your June 1969 car’s body number and compare it to my March 1969 car’s number. If you know 170 tourers were made in 1969 this will give you some idea of how close to the last one your car is. Of course the number of the last car is what you really need.
Car number (as reported elsewhere in this thread) is 72111, and the manufacture date was 28 May 1969. The last Tourer was made on 10 June 1969, so it's pretty close.
Thanks for your help.
Cheers, Laurie.

Re: Latest Convertible?
So your car is 56 cars later than mine (72055)

Re: Latest Convertible?
Yes, clearly. And about that many days, I suppose. Sadly, I'm not sure where this data would be recorded. A visit to Gaydon would be required, I suppose. There's only 2 weeks between mine and the last one, but who knows how many were made? Given that few people seem to know that as well as a chassis number there's a car number, it's going to be hard to find out too!
What we do know, from the production figures, is that both our cars are amongst the last 170 made. Which is a start!
Cheers, Laurie.

Re: Latest Convertible?
Too much information on a public forum, re numbers. There are bad people out there.

I suppose we could ask for the thread to be deleted? It would still be archived somewhere though….
