Today in front of a hundred or so school kids - all of whom were laughing at Daphne laughed even more when she wouldnt start!! My teenge daughters ( who dont appreciate her anyways) were cringing in the back seat of the car !!
I calmly got out, lifted the bonnet and thought RIGHT - everyone says how easy it is so i sort of fiddled with everything under the bonnet, wacked everything with the handle of a screwdriver, put the bonnet down and she started perfectly!!

rubber to get it going, if it still dosent run, sledge to take your spite out on it works wonder for stress.till the next day and you start the rebuild all over again. They work on wives and girlfriends as well

Now lets get back on the question/statement thing!
Imangwin- is this "non starting" to do with your previous clonking, or was she turning over when you turned the key?? I'm worried because you should NOT get in the position of having school children laughing at her, it will make her sulk, and is VERY uncool!! You may feel good about making her go by randomly fiddling under your bonnet(nooo really) but she deserves to be mended, not messed with We are here to help!!

Nope its a different " not starting" Definately not the "clonk" thing. She is turning over but not firing. She did it yesterday and when i went in for my OH she started first time so was she just cold?
Today she did it again and we have had a lot of rain here - torrential so could it be to do with that.
She has got some leaks, i've noticed puddles in the foot wells but traced that to a leak in the windscreen which i need to get sorted. Unfortunately she isnt a garaged and " sunday" car so i need her to be a good girl and just work!
I know all about the leaky windscreen/ wet leg business! Hope you have suitably chastised your daughters, for punishment make one of them sit in the front with the rain running down her leg!!
LISTEN when you turn the ignition on, before starting her. You should her a series of rapid clacks from under the L/H side at the front. That is the fuel pump filling the carburettor. It may be from 2-3 up to a dozen or so. If you here that, then the biggest culprit, the fuel pump, is working. If not, as stated above, a smart tap on the side will usually make it see sense temporarily! Does she run smoothly when she starts? If it is damp on the electrics, the most likely culprit is the distributor cap (the black bit with the four spark plug leads coming from it. Can suffer damp and dirt on the outside, and also inside. Two simple clips hold it on, go on be brave!! wipe it thoroughly with a bit of rag (preferably something with "high school musical" emblazoned on it!) and that should put that worry off your list. I dont hear any clicks when i have turned the ignition on and i did take the distributer cap off and managed to put it on again. she runs really smoothly when she starts and sounds ok.
From what you have said it sounds like the fuel pump!
