Re: MOT requirements
Hi there.
No you dont need a fog light or wing mirrors, as long as you have the interior rearview mirror.

Re: MOT requirements
Depends if you (or they, to be precise) define a Minor pickup as a goods vehicle - a traveller certainly wouldn't be. Not sure how it works with older vehicles. And to be honest, most testers probably wouldnt be. (I had a van tested last year with only an interior mirror. Not wonderful to drive though...).
Rules for cars are: foglight not required before May 1980 and only one mirror (in any location) required before 1978
Whatever the rules, a clip on mirror on the 1/4 light frame isn't a bad idea anyway, even if you dont want to sully your wings with wing mirrors!

Re: MOT requirements
If you DO fit a rear fog warning lamp - it must be in working order - and there must be a warning lamp inside. Same with 'hazards' - if fitted they must work and have warning lamp. Keep it simple - no unnecessary 'extras' !

Re: MOT requirements
i am sure vans and utility vehicles that are capable of carrying a load should have external mirrors fitted
and of course modern cars etc will have wing mirrors anyway

Re: MOT requirements
i have some mirrors to go on the quarterlight triangle but i dont have a pair, im waiting for the other one to come in, i guess as long as you have a drivers side mirror you will be ok. i dont intend to put hazards or a fog on, might wack a reversing light on at a later stage, the other thing, what about spare wheels? do i have to have one? can i just leave it in the pick up tub? or does it have to be bolted down, i spose it does just incase it jumps out a MY FAVOURITE CAR IS A NISSAN SUNNY someone!

i take mine out and has allways passed

Re: MOT requirements
without going to the bother of looking up the regs, from memory, goods vehicles and dual purpose vehicles(Travellers are same as estate cars capable of carrying a load) require two mirrors, either One inside and one on the offside or two external each side.

Re: MOT requirements
Not sure what the regulations say, but my friends traveller only has the inside mirror and passes MOTs without comment.

Re: MOT requirements
link to the online MOT testers manual here if you want to check it for yourselves. Years and mirror requirements are pretty clear, though couldn't see the definition of a 'goods vehicle' and how it would apply to a Morris Minor on my brief look. It'll be in there somewhere I expect....

Re: MOT requirements
Hi,
Just to re-iterate...
IF your car meets the original specification (i.e. - as supplied at first registration) then the only additional equipment that is necessary is a windscreen washer.
For some reason, this is mandatory for all vehicles (e.g. post fit).
All the remaining regulations allow you to keep the vehicle unmodified.
(including the white front indicators and brake/flasher if fitted originally)
However - if something is fitted additionally, then it must pass the MoT requirements.
I know that last year, the tester was operating the lights/indicators/brakes - the assistant was verifying that they worked - and was suprised that there was no rear fog nor hazards.

Re: MOT requirements
At the test place I use they have pulled the leg of the youngsters a few times, especially getting them to operate the lights as they say the switch is broken because of no main beam and the same with the washer switch it wont go down, needless to say I stand back when its explained to them by the tester

Re: MOT requirements
You don't NEED to have MAIN beam headlights - just a 'dipped' beam that doesn't dazzle according to their measuring device......

Re: MOT requirements
Hi Dave, if they are not fitted you dont have to fit them, but if you decide to fit some they will of course be tested..davey7075 wrote:hello new to all this just got my morris 1000.and just seen about fog lights and mirrors for mot?mine is a 1965 does this need a fog light and rear view mirrors.?
