axle casings

Post by martin418 »

can any one tell me the difference between an early and late axle casing , i see them listed as 54 to 62 and 62 on , my s2 1955 could do with a better casing so i want to refurbish one and swap it , i know the oil level plug might need fitting as i have done that when i changed the diff ,

The only difference between the two axle casings that I am aware of is that the position of the oil filler plug on the later axle casings was moved to the rear of the later axle casings as a result of fitting a different axle diff carrier which did not have the filler plug fitted to the carrier nose piece.
I fitted a later axle casing to my 58 Minor and found no differences other than the filler plug.
