I have been looking for a 12g940 for ages, I found one on ebay local to me its off a 1275 metro without the bypass hose spigot. The price is £40 for a bare head no valves or springs. I think its a bit pricey so I will have to carry on looking. I am a bit puzzled about the by pass hose I know either ...

When you had the head swopped by your mate ask him if he checked the wear lip on the bores. I doubt many mechanics don't do this as a matter of course. It seems mighty strange that this problem has only come evident after the head job. If the engine is ok otherwise I would do so more checking before...

blown gasket
I\\\'m having a look at a 1098 minor with a blown head gasket tomorrow. The head is not the original one but is a 202. If I have it skimmed is there an optimum size I can go down to. I suspect it may have been skimmed before.

quality of re con dampers.
Has anyone any experience of sub standard re con units. On another forum a member has had one come apart not long after it was fitted. Apparently there is a quality issue (again) with new dampers and some suppliers are advising against fitting them, but if re con ones are also sub standard where next.

grease in shock absorber
A couple of days ago I took my minor for an MOT, the tester who was very friendly asked me if I had replaced the oil in the shockers with grease. I was puzzled as I had never heard of this before. I had topped them up with an oil recommended by Morris oils, which is motorcycle fork oil. By the way m...

Result one rebuilt engine, rebore, the lot. How the ell it ran so well in the condition it was is amazing. By the way, I use e...
